I’m Kayla, Memphis native living in Nashville, TN. I earned my Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Food Science in 2014 from Middle Tennessee State University. After graduating, I started working as a nutrition educator for the WIC (women, infants, and children) program, and I absolutely loved it! After working for a year, I realized that my job didn’t offer much opportunity for career advancement. As passionate and intrigued as I was about nutrition and food science, I knew I wanted to delve much deeper in the field. So, I decided to go back to school and complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics. I just finished May 2018 (yay me!!!)
I was recently admitted into the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Dietitian Education Program (GOOOOOO BLAZERS!!!) to continue my journey of becoming a Registered Dietitian - a journey that has been long and, sometimes, difficult. But, I’ve learned that when you have a dream, no matter how many “no’s” you hear, no matter how much opposition you face, there is still an opportunity for an amazing “yes” that turns out to be greater than what you imagined.
I am passionate about nutrition and food science, and I want people to know that there’s more to eating healthy than salads and smoothies. The things we consume affect our bodies in good and bad ways, having a significant effect on how we feel. If we really pay attention to our bodies, we can see a major connection between food and our mood. My goal for NourishMeKay is to show you that eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring, tasteless, or expensive! I’ll share fact-based information, tips, and even recipes to help you adopt a healthier lifestyle.
